Eyre Highway..1194km plus side tracks...17days!!

After Fowlers a BIG day..50km, pulled up for a rest/revive!!
A local farmer from the area visited us often at Fowlers, figures we can only imagine and lifestyle storys..well!!His place, 23km along highway and 45 km to his back fence, 19,000 acres crop in, started to rain so in went another 1000 acres. WOMBATS.never thought of them out here but such a pest, 10's of thousands! allowed to cull 3,000 in June only. Their huge burrows are taking over his land and making cropping difficult, mounds and cave-ins etc. Dingoes getting thru 'dog fence' a huge problem, some of his new lambs had been killed that week. NO barbed wire on top of dog fence, might hurt the kangaroos!! we should be eating more of them! Camels are invading the area coming down from a dry non wet up north. Interesting nice man invited us out to his place..next time.
Just another classy drying fence! 50 km from Fowlers near Nundroo, fuel $1.55 cheap!
Walked around the paddocks and found these burrow, on the night excursion..found NO wombats.
PORK...we didn't...others have!
nice to have a camp fire
looks like bus seats were not needed!
The dog fence which spans across Aus

grid across the highway

Yalata, a community, 5 km off Highway,

The new police station, all house have been rebuilt, colourbond steel clad, quite new, 'stimulus  money 'thanks to Julia. The community has rubbish bins, which seem to remain empty..if you know what I mean!

On Yalata land, short drive in to interperative centre/viewing area to see whales, $5 ea.

Early in the season, I saw a tail flip way out and there were a few backs of whales way out, a nice day, BON VISTA!
We had been here once before and the whales and their calfs were abundant just below the cliffs.

The little dots on the horizon are vehicles on the Eyre Highway.

Sleeping on the edge not far from the WA border.

Historic Eucla Telegraph Station, built and operated early 1900, not built near the sand dunes but over the years the dunes blow...the very healthy tree with it's roots in a 'soak' perhaps why the house was built, here because of the fresh water near the ocean

The day before the WA border, a meal prepared in the Dream Pot to use all veg, fruit, nuts, honey. dream pot is like a big thermos, so before we start to travel for the day ..boil for 30 mins, silverside with water, vinegar, orange studded with cloves, 4 potatoes skin on, 4 carrot, skin on, 1 onion skin on used for the white onion mustard sauce. Pop the hot saucepan insert in the dream pot and put back in the cupboard and at 7 O'clock that evening, fire lit only needed to make the sauce and cook some peas, cabbage and we had cooked whole pumpkin in the coals the night before . plate up...was so delicious and then there was the dumplings,  having a good fridge freezer in the van means icecream!! The wine was nice too.
This is the area we camped, the colours , red, silver, grey/blue are fabulous, we seem to take it for granted as we have seen lots of this years when ago it excited us no end!! Always wish i had a painting talent. It was especially vibrant today because it had rained and smelt so fresh.

A blow hole not a water one but an air one..interesting

So that is it to WA , no problem at the border, I had some chopped lettuce the lady inspector  looked at and approved, she opened  a few cupboards and did not look in the vehicle..I had naught to declare and must have looked honest!! which I am..
Until next postings , cheers.
